In these longer retreats, we get in touch with the wisdom of the great mystics. We all strive for this wisdom since “our hearts are made for God and can rest only in Him.” In contemplative prayer, we seek a deeper  union with God and strive to live in the awareness of God’s presence in everything.

This is the way of the contemplative.

Our purpose is to experience the Passion of Jesus through Scripture and Liturgy. This purpose will be aided by film and classical music.  Participants are invited to bring their bibles, some paper for notes, and some previous experience with lectio divina and contemplative prayer in silence, all for deepening our communion with Jesus, and through Him with the Father in the Holy Spirit.     Thanks & Best Wishes to Our Retiring Director

& Meet Our New Director

From Mary Kaighan;

As I prepare to retire this year, my feelings are bittersweet. Although I look forward to spending more time with my family, I will miss being with the staff and the ministry which has provided so much richness to my life. The retreat ministry and the Daughters of Mary and Joseph have had a tremendous impact on me, personally, but also on the lives of all the members of my family. The Kaighans have deep gratitude to the Sisters for sharing their great hospitality with us. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the Sisters and all of the lay members of the staff who have labored so tirelessly over the years to support me and to enrich this ministry.  As with all things in life, there seems to be a grand design with God working behind the scenes. Once again, I think this has happened and it comes in the form of Annette Lenneman, our new Executive Director.  Annette is a woman of great substance and many talents. We are so grateful that she is part of God’s design for the Mary & Joseph Retreat Center. It is hard to believe that over 19 years have come and gone; the ups and downs, the joys and sorrows. Thank you for your many expressions of encouragement over the years. It is my hope that we will stay in touch since I live around the corner and also plan to be a ‘frequent retreatant’.

Love, Mary

From Annette Lenneman, Executive Director;

Some of the thoughts that come to mind as I think about my position as the new Executive Director include: changes and challenges for

 me, the staff and retreatants, which is both exciting and a little overwhelming. Change in life always brings questions and challenges.

      Mary Kaighan has been the Executive Director for over 19 years and has developed a wonderful, creative and energetic staff that I enjoy working and collaborating with already. Mary and the staff have made the change much easier for me though I am feeling a little overwhelmed,

but it is a good feeling.

I am excited about and invite you to join us for our sponsored programs for the next 6 months, some of the highlights include our Holy Week Retreat with Fr. Gregory Elmer, O.S.B., the “Valentine's Day Dinner” for married couples with Fr. Alexander Lewis, Sr. Julia's day retreat “Healing Through Forgiveness” and Sr. Carol Quinlivan's weekend retreat for women, “Discovering the Wisdom Within”.

    There are also many other opportunities for personal growth

scheduled, plus private retreats and spiritual direction.  Don't forget

to join us on Easter and Mother's Day for brunch. I look forward to

meeting you and sharing ideas and dreams for the retreat center.

Fondly, Annette
