“Pay attention.  Be astonished.  Tell about it.” ~ Mary Oliver
The hills of Palos Verdes, covered with wild mustard, arroyo lupine and deerweed, act as a refuge for four endangered species including the Palos Verdes blue butterfly. They are a source and connection to nature untamed and wild.  As we look to preserving the coast line, the fish, the birds, the natural flowers and indigenous species, this quilt celebrates the little known natural flowers that grace our hills - often un-noticed each year. The unique and special wonders of the floral landscape surrounding the Retreat Center inspires us to tend the landscape within.  By grounding ourselves in our place, the local hills and birds, flowers and plants, we open ourselves to a sense of wonder and curiosity. We are reminded that “ Where we pray and where we live are the same place."
